Each buffet we get in and repaint becomes my favorite during the time it is with us. I like the tall ones with doors, the squat ones with drawers and everything in between. This latest rehab is no exception. Painted in Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in Typewriter and finished with antiquing wax, it turned out to be a stunning piece. It has gone to a new home and we hope they love it as much as we did…

what’s old is new again
Hello! I wanted to share some of the discussions we’ve been having with our awesome customers in the store lately. A mother and daughter came in last week and we started talking about the differences between old and new furniture. The mom was sold on rehabbing some family pieces, but the daughter could not make up her mind. I shared with them the reasons I like older furniture…
First, old furniture is solid. It is built from wood during decades when craftsmen and furniture companies used the best products and guaranteed longevity. It might have a little wobble or a coffee ring on top, but those are easy fixes when you know the piece has survived the last 80 years and will probably make it another 80!
Next, consider the price? If you’ve shopped at large retail stores or online sites, you know that end tables are $500 and dressers are $1000. Most stores who sell painted furniture, including fivethirty, sell it for at least half that amount. We always try to find the best prices so we can offer the best prices.
Finally, older pieces are more interesting and unique. You can’t buy them out of a catalog and there aren’t many of them around. Even when they are similar, (think all the french provincial dressers we’ve had lately) they have different handles or a slightly different drawer profile. If you want something that is truly unique, shop vintage!
Well-built, inexpensive and uniquely yours? You just can’t beat it!
We will be closed this Sunday to spend time with our families. Happy Easter!

Here are a few of our pieces in Farmhouse White…
Also, Homestead House has placed coupons in two bags of Farmhouse White worth $250 in product! Yay, we hope one of them made it to INDIANA!!

Linnea’s Lights Candles
As you know if you’ve visited us in the store, we love the Linnea’s Lights handpoured soy candles we carry. We love them for several reasons — they are made in Carmel, Indiana (yay, local!); they burn clean so no black residue; they smell AMAZING!
We have some lovely new spring scents in addition to Cashmere and Belgian Linen that we carry year-round…
Grapefruit: A nice, sweet smell and just perfect for spring and summer. Grapefruit is a mixture of pink grapefruit, ginger and oak moss.
Heirloom Tomato: We tried it last spring and fell in love with this clean, earthy scent. It is a combination of ripe tomato, green stems and soil.
Moss & Lichen: The newest addition to our store — we are crazy about the clean, crisp scent. Moss & Lichen contains cedar leaf, fir needles and sandalwood.
Stop in for one today!

Day 2 of our trip to Pennsylvania was mostly about photography and social media. I took lots of pictures…
We learned about how to use Adobe Lightroom and take great pics. I don’t know if I will ever get it but I’ve been practicing since we’ve been back. We’ll see. And then there’s this, when your mentor helps you take a picture…
If only I could’ve brought her back! She can blog from anywhere, right??

Marian’s studio is such an inspiring and beautiful space. From behind the counter on the chalkboard wall…
To the MMSMP paint colors all lined up…
To seeing pieces she’s been posting on her own blog…
It was amazing. I would have packed it all up and brought it back to Zionsville but a bigger van would have been required! I did snatch up a few pieces of ironstone and we went to an antique store where Marian and Kriste shop.
The first day was mostly talk about products, painting a little and talking about how we as retailers use and answer questions about Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint. I even wore my paint sweater…
It was one of those days that you never want to see end. I talk about shared ideas to the sounds of sandpaper in my classes all the time. I love talking with other creatives and it was so inspiring! I can’t wait to bring some of our ideas back to 20 N Main!!
Stay tuned for the final post about our visit, day 2!

Kellie and I headed to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania last week for a retailer workshop at Miss Mustard Seed’s Studio. We drove so we could pick a few goodies if time allowed (it did!). The drive across Indiana and Ohio was fairly uneventful…lovely day, not much traffic. Siri told us to get off the PA turnpike a little early and so we were on a fairly rural route for the last two hours. Beautiful scenery…
When we arrived, we met up with my pal Kathy of Paint it Shabby whom I visit when we travel to Florida and another MMSMP retailer from Florida, Paula of A Painted Gate. Paula and I had met on a Google Hangout several years ago and it was great to see her again. She had never seen snow and they had a little left in the mountains so this happened…
We also met up with Stephanie Jones of me&mrs.jones, she’s tricky though, I didn’t get a picture of her…
stay tuned for lots of pictures of the Miss Mustard Seed Studio…
