Archives for August 2015

before and after: basic (almost) black

August 31, 2015 by Erica Carpenter Filed Under: Before & After, Milk Paint, News

From Better Homes and Gardens: Black has withstood the test of time. It’s a color that defines the ideals of classic design, and for good reason — it’s bold, it’s revitalizing, and it has the power to redirect our focus and add a sense of architectural elegance with the swipe of a paintbrush or placement of a piece of furniture.

For your consideration… pieces painted in Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint Typewriter and finished with antiquing wax…

before and after: schloss cabinet and chest

August 26, 2015 by Erica Carpenter Filed Under: Before & After, Milk Paint, News

These pieces were painted about a month apart from one another but don’t they look like the perfect pieces for a rustic family room??

ba107_schloss cabinet

This cabinet is schloss on the outside and grain sack on the inside and finished with antiquing wax to really bring out the details. Available at Old Picket Fence in Noblesville.

Same finish on this beauty, minus the grain sack! Available at fivethirty in Zionsville.

before and after: mora lowboy

August 24, 2015 by Erica Carpenter Filed Under: Before & After, Events, News

As I mentioned before, we love using the European line of Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint. We are especially enamored of Mora, a lovely green gray and one of September’s colors of the month! Here’s our latest…

We saved the original hardware for this one. I think they are really beautiful against the gray! Currently available at fivethirty in Zionsville!

the school window

August 21, 2015 by Erica Carpenter Filed Under: Events, News

The school window is my favorite every year. We almost didn’t do one this year because of how busy we were getting our kids back to school! We were a week late but pulled together some letters, maps and school desks to make it happen!

We pulled some of our salvaged letters to spell out “Back to School”…

The old teacher’s desk is from the 1880s complete with a pull out drawer and inkwell. We incorporated one of our cursive papers, a vintage map, a jar of chalk and a kid sized coat rack…

A chalkboard, thermos and yearbook from 1933 are nestled on an old oak student desk refreshed in Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint Kitchen Scale.

We hope you will stop in for a peek! And, if you’d like to see some of our other school windows, check out our Pinterest page!!

before and after: Mustard Seed Yellow rules!

August 19, 2015 by Erica Carpenter Filed Under: Before & After, Milk Paint, News

We have really loved painting with Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in Mustard Seed Yellow this spring and summer. Here are a few of the latest…

ba115_mustard seed table

A cute little side table with some very fancy legs. Two coats of milk paint and our custom light antiquing wax.

ba103_mustardseed table

A smaller side table with some cute turned feet in same finish.

A really adorable small, spindly shelf…it took a few coats because of those silly spindles but was well worth it. Sold!

ba109_mustard seed vanity

A sweet vanity complete with matching stool. Sold!

before and after: grain sack just never gets old

August 17, 2015 by Erica Carpenter Filed Under: Before & After, Milk Paint, News

Grain Sack MMSMP is our favorite neutral…you know it…we know it. Imagine my surprise a few weeks ago when doing our “store tour” during a Milk Paint 101 class that we had NOTHING in the store painted in Miss Mustard Seed’s Grain Sack! What in the WORLD? How did this happen? Well, we remedied that situation very quickly…

ba105_grain sack buffett

The before picture doesn’t really show how yellowed the cream color was or how brass the knobs were or how damaged the top was! In fact, you might be saying, “why did they paint this one?” You’ll just have to trust that we knew what we were doing. Plus, we painted this little cutie to match!

ba111_grain sack cabinet

They were both finished with a light mix of Miss Mustard Seed’s Antiquing and Furniture waxes. The big guy is gone but the little one is still available.

the new brush

August 16, 2015 by Erica Carpenter Filed Under: Milk Paint, News

We are excited to be carrying a new synthetic bristle paint brush! Introducing the first product from Parsons West, a collaboration between Marian aka Miss Mustard Seed and Shaunna of Perfectly Imperfect…

brush2015 2

We have been using the brush for about a week and are loving it. It fits nicely in our hands, loses very few bristles and puts paint on super smooth. We are currently carrying them at our shop in Zionsville, our online store, and in our ebay store.

before and after: boxwood cuteness

August 12, 2015 by Erica Carpenter Filed Under: Before & After, Milk Paint, News

This little guy is so cute! I love it, everybody loves it (almost everybody – Kellie painted the spindles so she just thinks it is ok!). It took a few coats of Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in boxwood, but boy was it worth it…

And, check out that reading material!!

before and after: artissimo dresser

August 10, 2015 by Erica Carpenter Filed Under: Before & After, Milk Paint, News

This piece seemed masculine, almost western, to me. So, we gave it a coat of Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in Artissimo and finished it with Antiquing Wax. Looks perfect for a boys bedroom or a lake house!

August Colors of the month: flow blue and layla’s mint

August 7, 2015 by Erica Carpenter Filed Under: Color of the Month, Milk Paint, News

The Colors of the Month for August are Layla’s Mint and Flow Blue…

Layla's Mint - Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint

Layla’s Mint – Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint

A version of this warm, minty green was originally custom-mixed for Layla of The Lettered Cottage.  It ended up being the perfect green to add to our subtle European colour collection. We’ve done a few tables in Layla’s Mint and are getting ready to do a dresser!

And Flow Blue…

flow-blue-Collage

Flow Blue is a rich blue that’s deeper than French Enamel, but not as dark as Artissimo.  It’s named after the blues found on antique “flow blue” china. Marian loves Flow Blue layered under French Enamel for a two-toned finish.  It pairs well with Boxwood.

before and after: say it, don’t spray it

August 5, 2015 by Erica Carpenter Filed Under: Before & After, Milk Paint, News

Full disclosure, we all have a little trouble saying “schloss”. It is a German word meaning castle and has more than its share of consonants. We trip over it quite a bit. Our customers sometimes look to us for guidance and we help as much as we can. But, wow – it is a beautiful color! I describe it as a taupe/gray but it can look much more gray in certain light. Check out this beauty…

Finished with a light antiquing wax and simply fabulous!

before and after: the kitchen scale love affair continues

August 3, 2015 by Erica Carpenter Filed Under: Before & After, Milk Paint, News

I love Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in Kitchen Scale so much. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: it is the perfect teal. Here are some more examples for your viewing pleasure…both finished with a light antiquing wax…

This dresser/table is available at Old Picket Fence in Noblesville.

This cute shelf is available at Fivethirty in Zionsville.

See, I told ya, perfect.
