I. Love. This. Table. So. Much. I liked the shape and style and hardware before we started and I am so excited we decided to paint it in artissimo, the navy of the Miss Mustard Seed line. Finished with hemp oil and antiquing wax…

This table had good bones but a really outdated look. We decided simpler was better so painted it with a coat of Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in Typewriter and a coat of Antiquing Wax. The hardware was nothing spectacular so we decided to paint it also.
I’ve been getting lots of questions in the store lately about why/when we paint the existing hardware. I’d say we are a pretty even mix of painting the hardware, removing and putting back on and replacing with new. If a piece is missing or it is a single knob and I don’t care for the original, we replace with a ceramic or metal knob. If the hardware is old, interesting and in tact, we will remove it while we paint and put it back on. If, as in this case, it is not that interesting, we will paint straight over so that it blends with the piece.

Though technically just a few day into fall, we are loving it so far! We have gathered lots of fall decor including pumpkins, owls and rustic signs. Some of my favorites this year are our mercury glass pumpkins and gourds. I’m also really loving the green and orange velvet pumpkins!
And, be sure to stop by and see our fall window for some orange-spiration!

It’s funny for me to talk about being outside of my comfort zone for color. In my own home, I have an orange living room. We love it and is has lots of neutral accents but it is orange nonetheless. For the store though, I stick to more neutral or softer shades for the bigger pieces of furniture. Not this time! We painted this awesome entry table in Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in Apron Strings, a lovely coral. We softened it a little with a light application of antiquing wax and are so pleased with the way it came together!

We hated to paint this one because it was such a nice piece, but unfortunately the damage was too extensive on top to save the original finish. We decided after some sad treatment from her previous owner that she needed to be bright and sassy. Two coats of Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in Lucketts Green and a coat of furniture wax later and I think she looks marvelous…

As many of you know, we go on the 127 Yard Sale every August. This year was a little disappointing because of the weather forecast: rain, rain and more rain. We rushed to get there and I went straight to the hollow where some of our favorite furniture sellers are set up. I beat the rain and found this amazing table! We painted it with #mmsmp trophy and finished with antiquing wax. I’m happy to report that it is on the way to its new home!

If you read about our school window, you know it almost didn’t happen this year. After we painted this desk, I knew we needed to put it front and center. A coat of Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in Kitchen Scale and furniture wax saved this cutie from the dumpster! It was in rough shape and really soaked up the milk paint but WOW!! What do you think?!?

This weekend is one of my favorite events in Zionsville, the annual Fall Festival! The whole town lines Main Street to watch the parade (ok, half the town lines Main Street to watch the parade because the other half is IN the parade)…
Stop by and see us this Saturday! And, if your kids are going to the carnival on Sunday, come up for a little shopping from 12-4. See you then!

We have been painting lots of little tables lately. If you’ve been in the store, you’ve probably seen us back there painting away on one little table or another. Well, here they are!
Miss Mustard Seed’s French Enamel with light antiquing wax…
A little tricycle with antiquing wax…
Kitchen Scale with antiquing wax…
They are all just as cute as can be!!

We got this adorable little tea cart at auction and decided to give a bit of a stately makeover. I see this beauty in a traditional home, maybe in a sun room filled with old iron outdoor furniture with newly upholstered cushions in a beautiful green and cream floral. A green depression glass pitcher with fresh sun tea sits on top along with some fresh cucumber sandwiches….where did that come from?
Meanwhile, in our previously scheduled blog post…we gave the tea cart two coats of Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in Boxwood and a light coat of our custom antiquing wax. What a beauty!

Welcome to September! It is hard to believe the kids are back in school and it is almost Labor Day. The September Colors of the Month are Shutter Gray, a beautiful blue-gray and part of the original 12 colors, and Mora, a lovely green-gray that debuted this January as part of the Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint European Color Collection.
Shutter Gray was part of the sample pack I received when I applied to be a retailer over three years ago! I happen to have a picture of the first piece I painted with Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint. I still remember that day, thinking to myself, “this is the look I have always wanted and never been able to get with other types of paint”. What an exciting day!
Here it is all styled up for our Grand Opening in September 2012…
I still have a soft spot for Shutter Gray because of this piece. I love how it looks blue in some lights and gray in others. I love how it covers like a champ but still looks light and airy. Here are a few other pieces…
We have also enjoyed working with Mora, similar in lightness but with green hues instead of blue, it is a lovely color for larger accent pieces…
…and side tables…
Happy Painting!
