using jolie paint as a wash

Jul 13, 2023 | Jolie Paint

What do a rattan nightstand and a rustic pie safe have in common? We used Jolie Paint as a wash on both pieces!

How do you create a wash? I’m glad you asked because it is so easy and can make a BIG impact using very little paint.

First, choose a color. For both of these pieces, we chose white. I’d need to check to be sure, but if I had to put money on it, I’d wager Gesso White because it is our favorite. You do you and choose which color you’d like.

Second, pour a some paint into a separate container (save your old Tupperware for this) and then add water until the mixture is slightly runny. NOTE: we are not measurers at Fivethirty but if you are going to need more than one batch, measure your paint and water. I’d start with 1/4 cup of paint and add water in using a measuring cup.

Third, paint the mixture on the piece with lint-free rag in hand to wipe off the excess and see down to the grain. Repeat for a darker look.

Finally, finish with Jolie Clear Wax. BOOM, you did it!
