oh boy oh boy oh boy
This month’s product of the month is one of my favorites of the whole line, all natural hemp oil. When I talk about hemp oil during our classes at the store, the attendees usually purchase some hemp oil because I gush and gush about its many uses and wonderful properties.
- We use it on all of our wood pieces that will not be painted before we bring them in the store. It is a great way to clean, nourish and rejuvenate wood pieces.
- Wet sanding…if you haven’t done this, you must try. In a nutshell: paint, dry, squirt on the hemp oil, break out the 220 sandpaper and enjoy the smoothest finish you’ve ever felt.
- Resist: Apply a little hemp oil between two color of milk paint and create your own chippy goodness.
- Cast iron and metal: Season and clean your cast iron and metal pieces because ta-da, Hemp Oil is 100% food safe.
- Wood kitchen islands and tables, cutting boards and anything else you eat off of. So easy and good for the wood!
MMSMP Farmhouse White is an antique white, perfect for when you want a little depth on your piece of furniture. I’ve been using Farmhouse White more and more, and while I’m still a Grain Sack girl at heart, Farmhouse White is winning me over. We answer questions about the differences between the two colors all the time, and my general response is that Grain Sack has just a hint of gray and is therefore a bit darker than Farmhouse White. Check out our Pinterest board for more inspiration.
Our other Color of the Month for February, is Arabesque, a soft pale pink that is part of our European Line.
One of our favorite families was looking for a china cabinet for some extra storage. We measured and planned and worked together to find this lovely Duncan Phyfe style cabinet and then painted the exterior in Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in Artissimo. It worked out perfectly for them (and for us because we lovveee working with them)!
New Year, new blog series! We are kicking off 2019 with a new blog series of design tips. Each week (or so) we will offer a new design tip and an inspo picture for you to think about in your own home. Is my space complete? What’s missing?
Our first tip is to choose interesting lighting! In addition to light, which makes any room more inviting, a lamp or fixture can add a touch of wood, metal, softness or whimsy…
The Colors of the Month for December are Marzipan and Boxwood! Marzipan is a rich cream (as the name suggests). We love to finish Marzipan with a light antiquing or maybe even a little white wax.
Boxwood is one of my favorite mmsmp colors. Marian named the color after boxwood plants that she likes to use in decorating her home.
A huge thank you to everyone who came for the Holiday Home tour on December 1st. We were thrilled to partner with the Zionsville Showchoir on their yearly fundraiser and this year was extra special because my mom’s house was on the tour. I hope to share everything we did at her house because it looked amazing, but the best part for me was seeing all the friends and family who came and hearing the amazing kids sing and play!
Hello! The Zionsville Chamber has organized two more events this week and we will be open and participating in both!
Thursday: Ladies Night, 6-9 pm! Grab your girlfriends and spend the evening in the Village. Many of the shops are open late and we will have horse drawn wagon rides all evening. fivethirty home will have hot chocolate and treats hosted by the ladies of ZWIN.
Saturday: Snowflake Seek & Find 11 am – 3 pm! Pick up a card at any participating merchant or at the Chamber office and search for snowflakes in various stores. End the hunt at zWORKS and decorate a cookie with our friends from the Zionsville United Methodist Church. See you soon!
Have you tried our MMSMP colors of the month for November??
Schloss, our lovely, taupe/gray, is a great neutral if you want some warmth in your gray. Can you beat a gray with brown undertones? Not in my book!
And, speaking of brown, here’s curio! Miss Mustard Seed created Curio to mimic the look of old an old curio cabinet. It is the most versatile of all our MMSMP colors in my mind because it is really a walnut color. You can add extra water to make a stain or a wash or mix it at full strength for a rich, dark brown.
Think Halloween, already?
Our Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint Colors of the Month for October are Typewriter, our soft black and fivethirty fave, and Outback Petticoat, the newest color in our line that is a vibrant orange.
It’s almost hard for us to narrow down the options for our typewriter collages because we use it so much. Some of my all-time favorite pieces have been painted in typewriter. Buffets, side tables, chests and more — it has been a great color for so many pieces of furniture. We almost always finish MMSMP typewriter in Antiquing Wax because it takes the paint from a dark charcoal to a soft black. We will sometimes buff the finish more for a richer, full black color.
And Outback Petticoat…
We are excited to have Outback Petticoat as an option this fall. Perfect for pumpkins, signs and everything fall, Outback Petticoat is a vibrant orange perfect for a pop of color. I prefer to use our Antiquing Wax as a finish for this color also. It adds a layer of depth that appeals to my orange-loving self!
Both of these colors are available in the store and online in both tester and quart sizes!
